IN CHARACTER

Character Name: 10K (Tommy)
Canon: Z Nation
Canon Point: 5.02: "A New Life," before discovering Red is alive.

In-Game Tattoo Placement: On his ribs.
Current Health/Status: Fine... ish. There was a point he was bitten by a zombie hybrid and took on hybrid status himself, then got dosed with a cocktail of vaccines, then died of an infected gunshot wound. He was re-vaccinated and re-bitten (again) at the time of his death and revived without many of his hybrid traits, but he has a... very... sluggish pulse these days, like someone caught on the verge of death. He's a freaky medical anomaly, basically. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Age: Approximately 24.
Species: Human... ish. Whatever you classify a human-turned-zombie-hybrid-turned-human-again as.

History: Z Nation and 10K.

Personality:

To understand this guy, you first need to know 10K--whose actual name is Tommy--ditched his real name and took on the moniker "Ten Thousand" in reference to how many zombies he plans to kill in a world where the zombie apocalypse has been in full swing for eight years. His count is already at over 8000 confirmed kills. This... may or may not say something about his hobbies and interests.

Tommy didn't have the most conventional of childhoods, which more or less sealed his fate as a bit of an odd duck. Raised in a remote mountainous region by his parents, who were essentially doomsday preppers, he grew up learning to live off the land from a young age without the luxury of cable or the internet. What he lacked in polished social skills or pop culture knowledge, he more than made up for in survival experience when civilization collapsed. Despite being orphaned in the early days of the outbreak at the age of 15 or 16, he had the ability and discipline to survive on his own. Likely as a result of the isolation in which he was raised, 10K is a quiet, introverted young man at heart. So much so, in fact, that for a long while after crossing paths with the main cast around the age of 19, he barely speaks more than a few words at a time to them. He opens up more as he gets to know them and vice versa, but he ain't much of a chatty Kathy, this one.

Part of his reservation around others is simply that you can't trust anyone in the world he lives in. Other people can be just as much of a threat as zombies, and one of the biggest happens to be in his own survivor group: a man called Murphy who potentially carries antibodies to the zombie virus in his blood, but who also happens to be as big of a dickbag as they come. Needless to say, 10K has learned not to let his guard down lightly. He can seem placid and unobtrusive to the point someone might forget he's even in the same room as them, but there's more going on below the surface than his reserved temperament might suggest. He's watchful, with an intelligent thoughtfulness, resourcefulness, and a hidden sardonic wit to match his stubbornness. It takes a special fearlessness and determination to average 1000 zombie kills a year, all things considered. Some say that Darwinism has weeded out the weak and left the baddest of the badass alive, and 10K certainly has a core of steel that keeps him going through increasingly bad conditions and the loss of many, many friends along the way. The phrase "still waters run deep" is apt in his case.

The defining aspect of 10K's character is that he is, first and foremost, a survivor. Spending your formative teen years in an environment where morals are optional and people die around you every day, you learn to be pragmatic and compartmentalize fast.

That said, 10K continues to be an odd duck even by apocalypse standards, as he refuses to let pragmatism turn into selfishness and the "it's not murder if it's the apocalypse" way of thinking. The death of his father impacted him greatly in this regard--he was infected at one point, and it was 10K who ultimately had to kill him. Before he turned, however, his father expressed how proud he was of the upstanding, compassionate man Tommy was growing up to be, and had him promise he would continue to fight and do the right thing. It was because of his father that 10K turned to marking zombie kills as a means of coping, and it's because of his father's last wishes he's kept his promise as best he can, choosing to stay alive and help other survivors when and where he can.

This conflict between the jaded reality of what they're living through and the desire to live up to his father's memory, between giving up and continuing to fight on, informs a lot of 10K's decision-making. He doesn't necessarily value his own life--in actuality, he thinks things getting better is wishful thinking and believes that "nothing good lasts," in his own words--but using what life he has left to give humanity a fighting chance still means something to him.

To make a long story short, he's just a very Tired boy trying to do some good in a messed up world before he bites the big one.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:

10K doesn't have any superhuman abilities, but he is a scary good marksman with self-defense training, and after eight odd years running and surviving, he could probably give Survivorman a run for his money.

Inventory:

1. His clothing.
2. Rifle.
3. Ammo.
4. A pack of oreos.

What more does a grown man need?

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yepper.
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: Situations that pitch people who wouldn't necessarily work together into the same boat and forces them to work together is one of my personal favorites. Also, just monsters and creepy aesthetics IN GENERAL. You know, as you do in scary ass jam jars. Gimme some of that memory manipulation and questioning your reality as a cherry on top and I'm golden.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Nope!
